The MacMiller houses the McGrath video laryngoscope (and attached, operating battery) with room for an additional spare battery and is intended to protect and store the McGrath and its batteries from any potential damage caused in the OR, its storage cabinet, or anywhere else. The MacMiller is made of impervious, durable substances that can stand up to the industry gold standard of cleaning: chlorine bleach. The insert of the MacMiller is made of silicone while the surrounding box is made of a plastic called HDPE (high density polyethylene). Both materials stand up well to rigorous and unceasing cleaning with chlorine bleach. Download a User Manual here.

Note how the McGrath laryngoscope with attached battery and additional spare battery can be placed into the respective compartments of the silicone insert of the MacMiller and conform exactly to the contours of those devices. Simply place the McGrath and its spare battery in the contoured slots of the silicone insert within the MacMiller. Note how moving the sliding lid to closed clears the device and its attached battery in its slot in the silicone insert minimally, yet sufficiently to hold the device in place with adequate protection, preventing any significant movement. This is the way the devices should be used and stored in the MacMiller.

Your MacMiller should be cleaned after every use on a patient. Before cleaning the MacMiller, consult your hospital's guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting. Use only substances approved and methods listed to clean or disinfect your MacMiller. MilSpec Medical's warranty does not cover damage caused by unapproved substances or improper methods of cleaning. MilSpec Medical makes no claims regarding the efficacy of the listed chemicals or methods as a means for controlling infection. For methods to control infection, consult your hospital's Infection Control Officer or Epidemiologist. Hence, MilSpec Medical is not liable for any situation resulting in infection of either a patient or a user. The MacMiller (one piece box and lid) can be cleaned by two methods: wiping or soaking.
WIPING METHOD OF CLEANING:
Step 1: Remove the McGrath laryngoscope and any accessories from the MacMiller.
Step 2: Wipe all surfaces of the MacMiller clean by using a cloth dampened modestly with one of the following approved cleaning agents:
• Mild soap and water
• Isopropyl alcohol: 70%
• Hydrogen peroxide: 3% solution
• Diluted chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite): 10% solution prepared within 24 hours
• Lysol
• Windex
• Cidex
• GaviCide
• POI Super Sani-Cloth Wipes
Step 3: Wipe all cleaned surfaces with distilled water to remove any cleaning solution/residue.
Step 4: Allow to air-dry, or hand dry with a clean, absorbent, non-shedding, lint-free cloth.
Step 5: Reassemble MacMiller, McGrath, and accessories and place MacMiller in storage.

SOAKING METHOD OF CLEANING (PREFERRED):
Step 1: Remove the McGrath laryngoscope and any accessories from the MacMiller.
Step 2: Ensure that the disinfectant receptacle is clean and dry. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Step 3: Fill the receptacle with one of the following approved cleaning agents, sufficiently, to ensure complete immersion of the MacMiller.
• Mild soap and water
• Isopropyl alcohol: 70%
• Hydrogen peroxide: 3% solution
• Diluted chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite): 10% solution prepared within 24 hours
• Lysol
• Windex
• Cidex
• GaviCide
Carefully immerse the MacMiller in the solution in such a way as to displace any trapped air within the device.  Agitate the MacMiller within the solution by rapidly moving back and forth while submerged. It is important to ensure that the solution reaches all surfaces. Place the lid on the receptacle and let the MacMiller soak for five minutes.
Step 4: Remove the MacMiller from the cleaning solution, allowing the device to drain before transferring it to a clean rinse receptacle or sink. Rinse the device thoroughly with clean or distilled water once again ensuring that it is fully immersed while rapidly moving back and forth. Remove MacMiller from the rinse water.
Step 5: Allow to air-dry, or hand dry with a clean, absorbent, non-shedding, lint-free cloth.
Step 6: Reassemble MacMiller, McGrath, and accessories and place MacMiller in storage.
